The prayer we say before eating is: "Earth, wind, fire, and water have combined to make this food. Many beings have labored and died so that we may eat. May this food nourish us so that we may nourish life." I can't remember where I found this prayer, but it's part of our ritual now.

Wonderful little prayer! I am working to memorize it. How long has it been part of y’all’s ritual? How old are the others with whom you share it?

Do you know the “earth, my body” meditation? I talk about it here a little https://scientificanimism.substack.com/p/sunrising — given that it also goes through the elementals, it might be a nice complement to your found food prayer.

Sorely needed now, thank you! I've done this off and on with my kids over the years, giving thanks to the lives inherent in the food on our table, including Sun and Rain, and the people whose work brings the food to us.

Looking forward to it! Curious how you’ll frame it

Hi Chad,

I can relate to saying prayers in public and not wanting to be outed. And I love these much less anthropomorphic options. Thank you.
